If you own or manage a food business, you are probably aware that a new, stricter food standard will come into effect on December 8, 2023:
Standard 3.2.2A - Food Safety Management Tools.
Standard 3.2.2A is a new food safety standard for these types of businesses that aims to improve food safety and support consumer confidence.
There are three food safety management tools in the new standard:
★ food safety supervisor (FSS) -Offered by Job Trainer Australia SITXFSA006
★ food handler training - Offered by Job Trainer Australia SITXFSA005
★ substantiation of critical food safety controls (evidence tool)
Our Course covers the requirements of Standard 3.2.2A
The standard has defined what a Food Safety Training Course MUST contain.
A food safety training course means training in food safety that includes training in each of the following:
a. safe handling of food; and
b. food contamination; and
c. cleaning and sanitising of food premises and equipment; and
d. personal hygiene.
The food safety training course must include all of the listed topics.
Job Trainer Australia course contains the requirements and so much more, you will learn:
✩ safe handling of food
including temperature control measures for potentially hazardous food and understanding of the temperature danger zone
✩ food contamination
including strategies to keep raw and cooked food separate, allergen management, food storage, and use of separate utensils and chopping boards
✩ cleaning and sanitising of food premises and equipment
including correct procedures for cleaning then sanitising, using food-safe chemicals, and/or using heat as a sanitiser
✩ personal hygiene
including obligations for sick employees, handwashing, uniforms and grooming of hair, nails, skin, etc.
Food Safety Supervisors and Food Handlers
Some businesses already require an Food Safety Supervisor (FSS). The change means that these businesses will also require food handler training (for all food handlers) and if they conduct higher risk activities, the evidence tool as well.
For other businesses, the FSS requirement will be new. The new standard extends the FSS requirement to most food service, caterer and related retail businesses that are currently exempted by NSW food safety laws. These businesses will require FSS and food handler training, and if they conduct higher-risk activities, the evidence tool also. Key examples are school canteens, delicatessens and institutional settings such as gaols.
✩✩ In NSW, Food Authority licensed businesses that do not conduct retail sale of food and one-off not for profit events will be exempt from the new requirements.
What must I do to be ready before December 8?
Every business is different, Standard 3.2.2A has different requirements for different types of food-related activities. The following checklist is a good place to start:
Determine if the Standard applies to you, and which category your business falls into
★ Review your staff’s qualifications. Who needs to train or retrain?
★ Make sure you have a Food Safety Supervisor in every venue as required.
★ Get your current Food Safety Supervisors certified, or make sure their accreditations are up to date.
