It is a legal requirement in Western Australia that the licensee of a liquor licensed premises has, at all times, an approved manager on their premises when business is conducted. This is in accordance with the Liquor Control Act 1988 and individual licensing conditions.

DO I NEED AN APPROVED MANAGER CERTIFICATION IN WA?

Yes. The licensee of a liquor licensed premises is required to have an approved manager on their premises at all times when business is conducted. 

In essence, the approved manager is also responsible for the day to day operations of the business and must ensure compliance with the provisions of the Act.

Assessment is undertaken using different formats, yet:

✔ All assessments are conducted as open book assessment (this means you can refer to your Learner Guide or review link or any other material during the assessment).

✔ You must read and respond to all questions,

✔ You must complete the task independently, using your own words.

✔ No marks or grades are allocated for assessment tasks. The outcome of the task will be Satisfactory or Not Yet Satisfactory.

✔ Not Yet Satisfactory will be followed up by the assessor with feedback. You must review this and resubmit your assessment considering the feedback.

Knowledge Evidence

Multiple-choice: Demonstrate your knowledge through straightforward questions.

Free text questions: Apply what you have learned and provide information on how you will apply your skills and knowledge to the management of licensed premises.

Verbal Verification: Via Video Upload (Online): Verbally authenticate and verify your identity by submitting a short 1-2 minute video to confirm your name and date of birth, confirm that you undertook the online assessment, and reaffirm a few of your submitted answers.

The assessment process aims to ensure that you have acquired the necessary knowledge and skills to operate a licensed premises in accordance with the Liquor Control Act 1988 and individual licensing conditions.

This course is delivered online.

Each student will undertake a Pre-Enrolment Review or LLND short test before enrolling to help confirm the proposed course is suitable. It will provide valuable information about an individual's existing skills and knowledge, language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills. 

PREREQUISITE

You are required to have SITHFAB021 - Provide responsible service of alcohol. (formerly SITHFAB002)

Students who have already completed the national RSA unit with another training provider must upload their certificate evidence, or they can purchase the Approved Manager and RSA bundle at a discounted rate.

Stage 1 Assessment - Knowledge - Multiple Choice & Free text.

The course is broken down into small, manageable sections designed to improve your learning. 

★ Assessment stage 1 consists of multiple-choice and free text questions that are presented after each module. These questions may include drag and drop or fill in the missing word. 

★ If you answer a question incorrectly, you will have the opportunity to review the learning material and reattempt the question/s.

★  You will  be asked to provide free text answers, which will require you to source, read, and interpret information and answer in your own words. It is an online written assessment which requires JTA assessors to mark answers, which means that you do NOT receive your certificate immediately, however we aim to assess as soon as possible, generally, within two (2) business days

★ Once you have completed Assessment 1 satisfactorily, your free text answers will be submitted for review and assessment. You will then move on to Assessment 2.

Stage 2 Assessment - Verbal Verification.

★ The verbal verification stage confirms your identity, eligibility to complete the course, and competency in the knowledge assessment stage.

★ You will be required to:

     ✩ Show your ID so we can clearly view your details.

     ✩ State your name and date of birth

     ✩ Verbally declare that you are not on a student visa in Australia, and

     ✩ Reaffirm and answer four (4) questions that you have already answered in the knowledge assessment stage. 

✩ Upon successful completion of both units, MLPLCA001 and MLPLCA003, you will be deemed competent and awarded a statement of attainment for the full course 52863WA Course in Management of Licensed Premises. 

✩ This statement of attainment will serve as evidence that you have acquired the necessary skills and knowledge to manage a licensed premises in compliance with legal and ethical responsibilities.

Ability to calculate volume and number of standard drinks or samples.

Ability to determine a customer's age from date of birth on ID and proof of age documents.

Teamwork Sills:

Ability to share customer information with team members to ensure proper responsible service of alcohol practices within the organisation.

Self-Management:

Ability to deal with hostile or uncooperative customers in a professional manner and in line with organisational procedures.

RSA: 

International students CAN complete their training in RSA.

If you want to be employed at a licensed premises to sell, supply or serve liquor, you need to complete the nationally recognised SITHFAB021 Provide responsible service of alcohol (RSA) course. 

You need to successfully complete this course within 28 days of employment. A copy of your RSA certificate must be provided to your employer.

Please note that non-Australian residents on an international student visa can complete training with an approved training organisation such as Job Trainer Australia.

Please refer to the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS) 

Approved Manager Training: 

International students CANNOT complete their training in the Approved Manager Course

Training for this unit must be undertaken with a training organisation approved to train international students. These organisations are CRICOS approved. 

At this time you cannot apply for an unrestricted approved manager card as the existing approved providers presenting the Course in Management of Licensed Premises are not registered with CRICOS.
